Abstract

This quantitative research discusses the impact of free reading on the Islamic culture, among students of post-primary schools in Muscat, Sultanate of Oman. The statement problem lies in decline of students' desire for free reading. Practitioners in the fields of culture and education in Oman expressed through their research and articles, their concern about the decline of free reading. The objectives are; to diagnose the extent of students’ free reading and analyzing the level of correlation between that level and Islamic culture, at three selected elements: Islam, faith and charity among the study society. The method follows the descriptive approach. The questionnaire used for the data collection with a random sample of (750) students. The data were analyzed in a linear regression method to find the correlation of the free reading factor with those variables. The findings revealed that the standard deviations of the study sample reached (3.16) with a general standard deviation of (0.60), which means at medium degree. The existence of a statistically significant correlation between free reading and the level of Islamic awareness among the study sample. The researcher recommended the allocation of a reading quota at all levels of classes; to promote students' tendencies toward free reading.
