SLAVERY PROBLEM IN THE POEM OF MUHAMMAD AL-FAYTURI

Abstract

Slavery problem is one of the most important problems that have
plagued humanity in past and present time. It gained a lot of reformers and scholar’s attention. Writers and poets contributed also in
denounce and condemnation in various languages and cultures. The
poet Mohammed Meftah al-Fituri is the first and more Arabic poet
who discussed that problem and talked about (Africa and Negro)
qualitatively and quantitatively. Furthermore, slavery was his core
issue in his life and poetry. This article aimed to show scholars efforts
in studying this problem in the poetry of Muhammad al-Fituri, which is
one of the most important Arabic poets of the modern era. Therefore,
researches, studies, and published books that studied this poet are
accessed in order to expose scientific efforts in this important subject
and later introduced it according to its relation to research problem
starting with further and ending with nearest. This article revealed
several results. First, it revealed intersections of these studies with the
components and aspects of slavery problem. Second, these studies
addressed to broad spectrum of issues that reflected the poet humanity
vision about world. Third, it shows the poet psychological suffering
that resulted by his identity crisis. In addition, it revealed his various
poetic stages. On the other hand, it shows how the poet competence in
using poetic tools and various technics. Finally, the review concluded
lack of specialized methodology study of slavery problem in
Muhammad al-Fituri poetry that expose its motivations and artistic
manifestation and shown its various aspects by scientific modern
methodology.
